SABRINA

Hi my name is Sabrina Soler I am 14 years old. I have been playing basketball since I was 5 in P&R in a little Saturday morning program in Newington CT. When I was in 5th grade my father and I tried to start a travel team because it did not exist for girls in Newington. We convinced the town to hold a try out and we were able to establish a 5th grade team with my father being the coach. We had a rough start to our travel team career but throughout the years we develop into a good team. In 6th and 7th grade we went undefeated and made it to the championship but lost both times. In 6th grade we lost to Wethersfield and in 7th grade we lost to West Hartford. This year we did very well and went almost undefeated again. We made it to the playoffs and made it to the semifinals for the 3rd year in a row. We played amazing and held the lead for a while but then West Hartford had a lucky 3 point shot at the last second to win the game. My number is #1. I’m not really sure why I chose this number but I feel I play better knowing that I am wearing it. I wear #1 in both sports soccer and basketball. I like to think that I am number 1 on both the soccer field and basketball court. In 7th grade I decided to try out for the CT Sprit AAU team. My first year of AAU was very enjoyable. I got much better and got out of my comfort zone and made many friends. I met one of my best friends in that year. Her name is Delaney Nwachukwu. She is an amazing basketball player and a great friend as well. We bonded very well on and off the basketball court, so did our families. We had a very successful AAU season. We won most of our tournaments and also won states.
